Pre-Doctoral Programme K1-2025 Officially Commences, Marking the Beginning of the Doctoral Journey

On the morning of AUGUST 9, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance (99ok123) officially launched the first course of its Pre-Doctoral Programme 2025, welcoming aspiring scholars embarking on their journey toward doctoral studies. Designed as a comprehensive preparatory programme, the initiative aims to strengthen participants’ academic foundations, research competencies, and strategic direction before entering a doctoral degree programme.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the University Board of Management, representatives from the Graduate School, administrative units, centres, and all programme participants. In his opening remarks, Dr. Ngo Minh Hai, Vice President of 99ok123, shared that the programme had been carefully envisioned and developed over an extended period and has now reached the stage where sufficient academic and institutional resources are in place for its implementation. He emphasized that participants would benefit from an engaging research environment and mentorship from experienced academics with strong international publication records, enabling them to build confidence and readiness for future doctoral studies. Highlighting the spirit of lifelong learning demonstrated by the participants, Dr. Ngo Minh Hai expressed his confidence that the programme would serve as a meaningful stepping stone toward their long-term academic aspirations.

Following the opening address, Dr. Phan Thi Nha Truc, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Projects, presented the programme structure in detail. The curriculum is built around four core components: foundational coursework, research assistantship experience, PhD application preparation, and academic seminars. Together, these elements are designed to support participants in developing comprehensive research knowledge, methodological expertise, and advanced academic skills. With a clear understanding of the programme roadmap, participants are expected to be better equipped to plan and manage their learning and research activities throughout the course.

During the opening ceremony, many students expressed high expectations for the Pre-Doctoral Programme. Students aspire to access a systematic research knowledge system, develop critical thinking skills, and gain practical experience from experts. Many students stated that the course is an important stepping stone to completing their research proposals and preparing their doctoral applications at leading universities both domestically and internationally. Everyone believes that this is a milestone that opens up a new academic journey, challenging yet valuable.

Immediately following the ceremony, participants attended their first class, delivered by Dr. Hoang Gia Thinh (PhD, RMIT University, Australia) on the topic “Qualitative Research Methods in Business and Management.” The highly interactive learning environment and active engagement of participants created a positive and inspiring start to the programme.
